Wood & wood-aluminum

Real timber where you live, aluminum where the weather hits.

Nothing inside a house feels quite like a wood window. The grain, the weight of the sash, the way a stain picks up winter light. The worry in Seattle is the other side: eight months of rain. European wood windows answer that two ways. The timber is laminated from several layers glued with alternating grain, so it stays straight. And on our wood-aluminum windows, an aluminum shell covers the outside face, so rain and sun never touch the wood.

Wood or wood-aluminum: which should you choose?

All-wood windows need the outside finish renewed from time to time, more often on south and west faces. Wood-aluminum puts a powder-coated aluminum shell over the outside face, so rain and UV hit metal, not timber. Inside, both look the same.

Species and finishes

Several wood species are available; ask for the current list. Inside finishes: clear or tinted stains that show the grain, or opaque paint in RAL and NCS colors, and the factory can match a stain to a sample you send.

Laminated timber with aluminum outside is the wood window that makes sense in the rain.

Built like furniture, sealed like a modern window

Frame depths of 68, 78 and 92 mm, three or four locking points as standard, two or three seal lines and double or triple glazing. Hidden hinges are common. It's the same tilt-and-turn operation as our uPVC and aluminum windows.

Wood window questions

Will wood windows rot in Seattle?
Rot needs water that stays. Laminated timber, factory finishes, good drainage details and aluminum cladding outside keep the wood dry. Keep an eye on the exterior finish of all-wood units and refresh it when it wears.
How do I care for the inside?
Wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid ammonia cleaners. Touch up scratches with the factory finish.
Do wood windows insulate as well as uPVC?
Wood insulates well. Synergic with triple glass is rated from 0.16.
