Pivot doors

A front door that turns on its axis.

A pivot door doesn't hang on hinges along one edge. It turns on a pivot set into the floor and head of the frame, usually a little in from the edge. That lets the door be much bigger and heavier than a hinged door, and the way it swings is half the appeal. We offer two aluminum pivot systems for statement entries.

Why choose a pivot door?

  • Size. Leaves up to about 13 feet tall and 8 feet wide.
  • Weight. Concealed pivots carry up to 500 kg (about 1,100 lb), so the door can be glass, aluminum panel or clad.
  • Look. No visible hinges; the door appears to float.
  • Movement. The off-center pivot gives a slow, balanced swing.

Trade-offs: the door sweeps both inside and outside the line of the wall, the pivot side leaves a narrow gap you can't walk through, and exposure to weather needs careful threshold design.

Are pivot doors energy efficient?
They can be well insulated, but a large door has a long perimeter to seal. Both systems use multiple gaskets and drop seals. Ask for the rating for your size.
Do pivot doors leak?
Exposed pivot doors need a covered entry or careful threshold and drainage design. We'll advise on your elevation.
Can a pivot door be motorized?
Yes, with MasterLine 8.
How long does a pivot door take?
About 3–4 months from order: made to order and shipped by sea freight. Warranty: 20-year limited manufacturer warranty and 3-year installation warranty (warranty terms).
